Washington D. C.

As mentioned yesterday, AJ and I decided to pass on pedaling today. We had several reasons for doing this and it truly worked out in our best interest. Unfortunately for the riders that did not choose to stay in D.C. for the day, there were problems with the intended bike route. Not only did they miss out on a cool and productive day in the city, they were also deprived of about 50+ miles of riding. Also, my Achilles tendons and AJ’s knee were able to get some good rest. Also, we were able to represent EMS providers nationwide regarding new legislation that was introduced in the House of Representatives today. AJ did a good job describing this process in his Day 4 Blog so please feel free to check out that entry.
I’d like to talk more about the rest of our awesome trip to DC. It was a great day to be a tourist! The sun was shining, but it wasn’t too humid. We only had a few of hours to kill before we were to meet an old friend of mine, Megan Barber, and my dad for dinner, so we made quick work of walking the Mall. However, on our way to the White House, we discovered a vegetarian Indian cuisine restaurant. Of course I have felt starved for the last three days, so some curry over rice and vegetable samosas sounded delicious! We took pictures in front of the White House, and then proceeded directly over to the Washington Monument to snap a couple more photos. This was AJ’s first time in our nation’s capital so I enjoyed playing tour guide as much as AJ enjoyed taking in the sights. He mentioned that he would love to go to the Smithsonian. I had to remind him that there are several Smithsonian museums and that a person could basically spend all afternoon in any one of them. Instead we walked along the Washington Monument Reflecting Pool to go visit the Lincoln Memorial. This is a personal favorite of mine because Lincoln looks like a total BA, and he is portrayed as a giant. Not to mention, there is plenty of shade under which to take cover.
And I bet you can all guess what came next… Vegan FOOODDD!!! We took the subway over to DuPont Circle where Megan met up with us to eat at the Science Club. I was hoping this place would be a super nerd central headquarters or something; a place I would really fit in. But it was basically your run of the mill bar/restaurant with a microscope sitting on the hostess table. Haha Oh and don’t forget the Periodic Table of the Elements hanging on the wall behind the bar. No worries though, the food was delicious so all was well! My Pops finally joined us around 1900 hours to enjoy a vegetarian entrée. He also made sure that AJ and I went to a CVS drugstore to pick up some ice bags and NSAID’s to treat our injuries. By the way, my dad is AWESOME! Even though he worked until 1900 hours and had to wake up the next morning at 0400 hours to prep for a briefing he had to give, he still drove AJ and I a hour and twenty minutes out of the city to meet up again with our crew of Muddy Angels. What a stud! I love that guy!
